Everyone wants to write the next great celebratory piece for VD day, but may find themselves struggling with writer's block. If this sounds like you, grab your favorite pen and paper, pen down these inspirational thoughts of our sages. The following are some thoughts that have inspired many people, including one of India's most honored poets: "If the truth be known to me today I certainly feel at peace. That is because I know that my happiness lies in doing good deeds." -- Kabeer Sahib "Today at the bank there was a pile of money lying beside me. If it had not been there would surely have been a pile beyond count. I think it is because of this which has helped me to be so cheerful today. I am conscious that all my happiness lies in doing good deeds, but if there were no money lying beside me, I should have no way of spending my life. So it is not the money that makes me cheerful, for there would be no occasion for thankfulness. It is the thought that good deeds bring happiness that makes me happy." -- Kabeer Sahib "Who can say he has done enough? At best one can say 'I haven't done enough,' and what is more important, cannot say this to anyone else either. Doing good deeds is not a matter of being able to say to yourself, 'I have done so much.' Doing good deeds cannot be measured in terms of the amount. It is not a quantity." -- Kabeer Sahib "Do you know what is true service? It is to serve the poor. But the poor are not satisfied with being served. They want us to get involved with them. They want our hearts and minds too. They want that we should feel what they feel, that we should suffer as they suffer, that we should weep as they weep, and that we should weep from the same pain which has made them weep. This is the kind of service that the poor expect from us. But if we do not have it in ourselves, how can we give it to the poor? If we do not live with them how can we serve them? And then they complain that people like us do not really want to serve them." [Guru Nanak, Banarasidas (trans)] "Anyone who has no devotional love for God and no devotion to the Guru, at best offers prayers and makes offerings of flowers and colorful clothes on behalf of others. But these do not benefit him as he does not have any love or devotion for God or the Guru. The person who has no love and devotion for God and the Guru, even though he fasts, his fast will have no result." [Sri Chand, Raga Ramdas 1] "If one can serve a single human being with a full heart one will have a harvest a hundred-fold. If one has only ten percent of this fullness of heart one can serve many people. But if all this service is offered to God it will be a thousand-fold more effective. cfa1e77820
